How To Have Your Best Shower Sex Yet
In movies and television, I feel like shower sex is always portrayed as this ultra-sexy, spur-of-the-moment form of intercourse that just seems so darn hot and passionate. I mean, how could you not want to try it?
But honestly, anyone that’s ever done shower sex before knows that it’s way easier to want to do shower sex than it is to, well, actually do it! TBH: “Shower sex can indeed be challenging due to the slippery surfaces and limited space,” explains sex and relationship counselor Dr. Martha Tara Lee. (Raise your hand if you’ve ever accidentally fallen while getting down in the shower 🫢👀.)
Plus, “penetration is challenging during shower sex, because water washes off both natural and store-bought lubrication,” says Suzannah Weiss, a sex educator and resident sexologist for Fleshy. Basically, even though the shower gets you super wet (in more ways than one), it’s also a recipe for dryness and friction when you pair it with sex.
But shower sex is so hot! How can you still make it work for you, in spite of the difficulties? Here’s what you should know when it comes to curating the best shower sex experience, according to the sex experts.
Prepare Your Space Accordingly
Before you start your shower sex, think about what you might need beforehand to make the experience seamless. For example, Lee suggests using non-slip mats or grips to prevent accidents. She also says bringing along silicone-based lubricants that are water-resistant can help keep your shower friction-free.
Wash Each Other To Warm Up
As foreplay, “reveling in washing each other can also be fun in the shower,” Weiss explains. So grab your essentials (like your Bikini & Body Scrub, which will help slough away dead skin and make you both feel radiant, sexy, and clean), your favorite shampoo, and more, then suds each other up! Don’t forget to keep “laughing and stopping to kiss throughout the experience,” Weiss says.
Positions To Perfect
To make shower sex actually sexy, “experiment with positions that work well in confined spaces, such as standing positions like facing each other or from behind,” Lee says. One of the easiest positions is for one person to put their hands against the wall and lean forward while being penetrated from behind. “If the shower has a bench, that’s even better,” Weiss says.
Still Stuck? Try Mutual Masturbation Or Period Sex
Experts explain that you can also stick to non-penetrative acts like mutual masturbation and oral pleasure to avoid positions that might cause friction, pain, or slipping. And ICYDK, period sex is a great fit for the shower, too! “The blood provides natural lubrication, Weiss says. “And you don’t have to worry about getting the sheets messy.”
